Perhaps Miguel Valdes is just like most of us, except for the fact that he is the son of two prominent personalities in the country: Eula Valdes and Ronnie Quizon. He lived a normal life away from the limelight and simply enjoyed his life as a student, until one day, he realized what is he capable of.
“In school, I realized I love dancing and singing. Then my classmates would invite me to act in our film projects. I suddenly realized I can do all of these things.”
He embarked on his first acting stint in Giancarlo Abrahan’s “Paki (Please. Care),” wherein he portrayed a gay character, undeniably a challenging role for a debuting actor.
“It is exciting and scary for me to completely go out of my comfort zone portraying someone else with a different wave of sexuality. Difficulty was expected of course. I never had an acting workshop but the cast and crew, family and friends helped me. Can’t go wrong with that!”
But that is not the most challenging part for him because in the film, he had to act alongside his mother.
“I was nervous during our first day. She had never seen me act before. I even forgot my line in panic in our first scene and all I heard from that silent moment was the pounding of my heartbeat!”
Acting with his mother, a notable veteran actress in the industry, has its pros and cons for the 23-year-old actor. While it’s good being associated with an already distinguished actress from time to time, Miguel still wanted to make a name for himself.
“I know that I will always be compared to her, or to my dad. I will always feel the pressure because people will expect that I am twice as good.”
He also mentioned that he looks up to his grandfather, the king of comedy, Dolphy.
“I want to package myself not just an actor, but as an entertainer. I plan to expand by also getting into singing and dancing. I kind of want to be like my grandfather. He did everything. He’s of a different class.”
