In 1993, a young Ruffa Gutierrez won the Binibining Pilipinas pageant and represented the Philippines in the subsequent Miss World. While she only came out as the second runner-up in the following pageant, the Kapamilya actress has since been celebrated as one of the Philippines’ most beautiful women. Now a celebrity mom, she wants to pass this prestige on to her teenage daughter, Lorin Bektas.
On Thursday, March 22, during Lorin’s first endorsement project, Ruffa was asked by Push how she’d feel if her daughter joined a beauty pageant, and her answer was crystal clear.
“Why not? You know, I believe that she can represent the country in the best way possible. And importante kasi yung may utak eh. Beauty and brains. Hindi lang yung ang focus puro katawan, kung sino yung sexy. Second na lang yun eh. Ang importante is what she can do to represent the country in the best way possible.”
However, Ruffa maintained that Lorin should prioritize her education more than anything else. For someone who has been in showbiz since she was young, the celebrity mom has learned the importance of having a career to fall back on outside of the entertainment industry.
“Napaka-importante na makapagtapos siya ng paga-aral. I want her to make the most of everything that she’s learning while she’s in high school.”
As for Lorin Bektas herself, she expressed that she wouldn’t say no to pageantry or showbiz if the opportunity comes her way. However, she agreed with her mom about focusing on her studies first and foremost.
“Super important to finish my studies because if I do, I’ll be able to answer more intelligently, which will make me represent the country in a better light.”
