Who would’ve thought that a girl who has a disability will be able to nail a beauty pageant? Meet Ella Mae Layar, crowned as “Queen of Beauty on Wheels” 2018.
Ella posted on social media the story of how she was able to bring pride, not only to her family, but also to her hometown, General Santos City. She narrated her tale in a post she made on Facebook. She was able to mention that she has Polio, which is an infectious disease produced by Poliovirus, which causes muscle weakness, resulting to paralysis. On Ella’s case, she was not able to move her feet which is why she needed to use a wheelchair in order to move from one place to another.
In her post, she shared that having a dream, given her illness, was quite impossible to achieve. The young beauty queen stated that she dreamed of becoming a model, a majorette, and even a candidate for a beauty pageant.
“kung nakakalakad ako, gusto kong sumali ng pageant o kaya mag majorette o pagmo-model.”
However, she admitted that these normal dreams for other girls will never be attainable for her because of her sickness.
Despite her disability, she was on cloud nine and still couldn’t believe the fact that she won a beauty pageant and was able to make her impossible dream come true. She also wants to express her sincerest gratitude to her friends especially to her family and her boyfriend for their undying support for her throughout her hardships.
If you can still remember, Ella and her boyfriend Lance have already gone viral in the past after a group of guys spotted their sweetness and were moved by the situation they were in.
Nonetheless, her life is an inspiring story which encourages everyone that it is never too late to achieve your dreams and that no disability can hinder you from becoming who you want to be.
