A lot of actors and actresses in the local show business scene started out or was discovered because of a TV commercial that they did.
One of the most famous actresses right now and the Kapuso primetime queen, Marian River, got into show business when she appeared in a Sky Flakes commercial in 2005.
Also way back in 2005, singer-actress Nikki Gil first appeared on television when she starred in a Coca-Cola commercial while singing an original song called ‘Sana.’
The other half of the funny famous couple Solzbolz, Solenn Heussaff was also a commercial model. Before Solenn became an It Girl, she starred in a Pop Cola commercial where she played the role of a nerdy girl that turned out to be a beautiful lady.
Another famous celebrity who came from being a commercial model before trying out show business is no other than Toni Gonzaga. Toni was featured in her famous Sprite commercial with Piolo Pascual shouting, “I love you, Pioloooo!”
This is also what happened to BJ ‘Tolits’ Forbes.
Do you remember that Tide commercial where the child was complaining about how everything always depends on him?
His iconic line says, “Kailangan mag-aral mabuti kasi lagi na lang ako, ako, ako puro na lang ako.”
His commercial continued with Tolits being in school saying, “Sa math, ako. Sa spelling, ako rin.”
The detergent soap commercial ended with Tolits as the representative for a declamation contest in Filipino.

Have you ever wondered who the boy behind that iconic commercial is and where he is now?
The boy in the detergent commercial is BJ ‘Tolits’ Forbes.
Before BJ became known as Tolits, he tried his luck at the popular children’s segment of Eat Bulaga. The GMA-7 show had a segment called ‘That’s My Boy’ which was formatted like a pageant for kids.
Tolits did not win in ‘That’s My Boy’ and landed the detergent commercial which made him popular.
Tolits then joined show business and starred in the phenomenal fantaserye, Encantadia.
Aftee Encantadia, Tolits landed a role in Fantastikids, also at GMA 7.
Tolit’ show business career every now and then gave him projects, with ABS-CBN’s remake of Pangako Sa’yo as his latest project. He starred in the 2015 show alongside the love team of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.

Currently, Tolits is now 20 years old. He also played a role in the theater adaptation of Ibong Adarna as Don Juan.

Tolits is a college student taking up Computer Science in STI and is also his hometown’s Sangguniang Kabataan Chairperson.
